hyp·no·ther·a·py
/ˌhipnōˈTHerəpē/
the use of hypnosis as a therapeutic technique.
Why hypnotherapy?
The use of hypnosis allows us to access your subconscious mind more easily. This is an exteremely powerful part of our minds, where we store all our memories from the moment of conception – even those memories we don’t remember consciously. It is also where we store our beliefs and imprints.
The main task of our subconscious is to keep us safe, to ensure our survival. Physically, this includes the running of all of our vital organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys. All of these work perfectly without us having to consciously organise them, because they are run by our subconscious. We don’t have to consciously direct our blood flows, regulate for our heart to keep pumping, etc. When we sleep, everything works without our awareness. It is also the job of our subconscious to protect our minds. For example, when something traumatic happens, our subconscious would sometimes try to protect us by possibly repressing the memory. That’s why in the field of psychology there is what we call “motivated forgetting” – a reasoned forgetting.
Even though we might not consciously remember what happened, it doesn’t mean the memory is gone, it’s still stored in the subconscious and can still affect our actions, emotions, and attitudes. Working through your subconscious allows us to tap right into the root cause of each issue or trauma, and lets us work directly with the part of you who are still in pain. In my practice, I use the holistic healing hypnosis (link) approach.

A bit about hypnosis...
Hypnosis is a natural state that we go into by ourselves a dozen times a day. Simply, it is the state of our mind when we’re calm and relaxed and it’s measurable through our brainwaves. When our mind is actively engaged – when we’re talking, or focusing on a task; we are in beta brainwave. Beta brainwave is characterised by low amplitude and high frequency, around 15-40 cycles per second. These other brain waves below beta are where we begin to be in a state of hypnosis – alpha, theta and delta waves. These waves have higher amplitude with a slower frequency. Our brains are on alpha/theta waves when we just wake up, are resting, meditating, or doing something over and over again – driving home, making tea or coffee, daydreaming…that’s when we go into hypnosis every day.
